HOW TO: getting from Sai Kung to Sheung Luk Stream in Sai Wan, Hong Kong

These instructions will lead you to the amazing Sheung Luk Stream in Sai Wan, Hong Kong.

After about a 20-minute walk, you end up in the Sai Wan village. There are nice little restaurants that are not too expensive, we paid around 50 HKD for a big noodle/beef thingy (at the first restaurant on your right) which was enough for 2 people.

You can also buy your boat tickets from here: if you know that you will take the boat, you better book it now before going to the streams as they might get full.

We swam for a bit at this point, couldn't take the sun anymore! 5-minute walk from here on.

The sand path - not the toilets but the middle way!

Towards Ham Tin!

Shoes off at this point, the path gets quite challenging. Be careful! You can hear the people and see the hassle here, can't get lost anymore.

And there you are! This place might get really crowded on weekends so if you can, go there early or late and on weekdays. There are many pools (one more on the top of the waterfall) but people tend to stay in the one with the waterfall.

Be careful when cliff jumping! You are at your own risk and there are warnings online that helicopters cannot reach this place so you really are own your own if something happens.

This is the view from the pools towards the Sai Wan beach. They can almost be seen from the beach, I can't believe how so many people say they did not find the waterfall despite a lot of effort!

Getting back home:
A) Walk back to the Sai Wan Pavillion (buses once in a while, taxi nearby if you are lucky) - the risky option - and then choose your preferred option from the bus or minibus or taxi to Hong Kong.
B) Take a boat to Sai Kung Village - prices around 100 HKD, we paid 80 HKD after 5PM, the thirty-minute speed boat ride is really worth the money - and then choose your preferred option from the bus or minibus or taxi to Hong Kong.
C) Continue the trail towards Tai Long Wan and other beautiful beaches (up to a 10km-hike) - if you have started your day early, this is a very good idea! I wrote about this hike in Finnish in May 2017.
